I have been invited to attend a meeting by BCRM to give a patient's perspective to the people who decide what the money should be spent on within the NHS... below a copy of the email I received.
Julie has given me your email address to ask for your availability for
a fertility meeting I am organising in Bristol (I have deleted the location)
24th November 3pm onwards. My role as Market Access Manager involves
working with Primary Care Trusts to help the commissioning process. Due
to the complex nature of treatments associated with fertility it is
difficult for commissioners (people within the PCT who purchase
services) to understand fully what is involved in treatment and also
for the providers of health care (such as BCRM) to understand what the
commissioners require. The purpose of the meeting is to have round
table discussion of requirements from all sides and would be very
useful to have the patients perspective. My role is to facilitate such meetings and I have no promotional responsibilities.
SueMJ was also asked but unfortunately she is unavailable next Tuesday so I'm extending the invitation to someone out there. You don't necessarily have to have been successful with treatment, just to have gone through it at BCRM so that you can put forward your views. The meeting is likely to last at least two and possibly three hours so there is quite a commitment required.
I am guessing that as well as PCT's there may be other treatment providers at this meeting giving their side of things.
Anyone willing to put themselves forward needs to do so quite quickly. I guess if loads of you fancy the chance then Julie will have to put names in a hat.
If you want to put yourself forward in private, please pm me.
