Why I need an egg donor

I am now 40 years old;19 years ago I had treatment for cancer in my ribs. As part of my treatment I had to have chemotherapy and radiotherapy. This led to ovarian failure, which means I am sterile. My husband and I have been trying to have a baby for some time. Our hope is that I can conceive using donor eggs so that I can have a pregnancy and go through a delivery.

The waiting list is 2 years to be matched to a lady who will act as an egg donor anonymously. We have taken part in publicity exercises to highlight the need for donor eggs and this has helped us have quicker treatment. I was recently matched to a donor but unfortunately she only produced enough eggs for 1 recipient so I have to wait for the next donor. There is such a shortage of donors that each one is matched to 2 recipients. I know that rarely, a donor may not respond to the drugs enough for even 1 recipient.

The whole waiting process is extremely stressful for both of us. We have a good relationship. It would be lovely to have a child.
